Weekly Update 1/23

Hello Scouts and Parents:

Well how about this weather for winter!  I guess we could use a cold night or two so some mosquitoes die.  That aside I am taking advantage of this to get some outdoor work accomplished.

We will have TLC on Monday at 7.  William tells me he and his team will be planning activities around biking and geocaching for the next few meetings.

We will have a full meeting at 7:30.  Wear those Class A’s!  Our program will involve something with bicycles.

4 New Scouts will join us on Monday make sure you make them feel welcome by saying hello.

Our next camping trip is Feb 10-12.  We are headed to Brazos Bend to bike, hike, work geocaching and offer the orienteering course for those in need.

Summer Camp deposits are due Monday.

Jason Thorn Eagle Court of Honor is Feb 4.  Watch this space for time.

Weekly Update 1/8

Hello Scouts and Parents:

What a beautiful weekend!  It is a great time to be outdoors.  Several new scouts reviewed how and what to bring on a back packing trip yesterday and then took a short hike.  According to my Dick Tracy watch we hiked 1.56 miles.  I then ran home along Cypress Creek.

Busy times in scouting.

We will have TLC tomorrow night at 7 pm and then a full meeting at 7:30.  We will be working on backpacking and planning our trip to Enchanted Rock.

Parents, Mr. Hahn has volunteered to maintain a base camp while many of us are back packing.  So comfortable camping will be available to those who prefer not to backpack.  Looking at the list of adults who have indicated to me they will make this trip, the troop is still searching for someone to pull the trailer to enchanted Rock.  As we are back packing the trailer will likely be 75% of normal load our about 3000 lbs.

We are camping this weekend.  Permission slips due tomorrow night.  Remember we are leaving early Friday due to the long drive.  So be at the hut by 6 with a sack dinner (sandwiches and plain burgers no drippy stuff in the cars please!)

Up coming events:

Several Merit Badge Universities are happening.  Make sure you are talking to Mrs. York if you are interested.

We will have a committee meeting and a scout master’s meeting on Tuesday night at 7 PM (Jan 10)

Scout Sunday is Feb 5.  We traditionally cook breakfast for our host church and plan to do so.  We will need an adult volunteer to coordinate with Mrs. Lindenfeld and purchase the groceries.  The boys cook this meal (Pancakes, French Toast, Bacon and Lil Smokies) with adult supervision.  We will need one adult to work with the french toast crew, one to work with the meat crew and one to work with the pancake crew).  Those not cooking are welcome to show up for church at our host congregation.

Have a great week  and remember to be prepared.

Summer Camp Update

Hello Scouts:

Hard to believe it is time to start planning for summer camp.  Here is a message from Mrs. Moore — Make sure to read all attachments.

Hello, Scouts!  It’s time to start preparing and planning for Summer Camp 2012!  This year we’re going to Camp Rainey Mountain in northeast Georgia. There is a lot to do for everyone.

This camp is well-known for its technology offerings giving interested scouts a unique opportunity to earn merit badges in chemistry, composite materials, engineering, energy, electronics, nuclear science, radio, space exploration, animal science and electricity.

If you’re interested in a high adventure, this camp offers several opportunities such as Epic Adventure Camp (horseback riding, whitewater rafting, backpacking, mountain biking, rappelling, and high ropes course), Scoutland Aquatics Outpost (motor boating, water sports, sailing and whitewater canoeing), Gold Rush (a living history pioneer program), Ranger Camp (a high adventure expedition, “ranger style” spent with the US Army 5th Ranger Training Battalion, COPE Camp, Mountain Trek, Whitewater Experience, and for new scouts, TNT Camp.

We’ll be leaving the Scout house on June 23rd and returning on July 1st on a chartered bus.  The cost for camp is looking to be around $625 per scout. Sign-ups will be held at the next two meetings, and the first deposit of $125 is due no later than January 23rd.  (Remember that our fertilizer/mulch sale is coming up and is a great opportunity to earn enough money to cover the cost of summer camp!)

See you around the Scout House,

Summer Camp Update

Hello Scouts and Parents:

Happy New Year!  What a great day it is today.  Hopefully you are doing something fun outside!

Tuesday you return to school and we have some busy times in scouting.

We will have TLC tomorrow night at 7 AM.  We will have a full meeting at 7:30.  William and his team will be going over the types of different stoves you can take back packing.  There might be a cooking demonstration too.  We will be backpacking on our next camping trip.

First year scouts, we will review how to pack a back pack and take a shake down hike on Saturday January 7.  I will let you know during the week where we will meet to do this.  If the weather is like today we will meet at Meyer Park at 8:30 AM at a Pavilion on the North side of the park.  However, if the temperatures are forecast to be in the 40′s, we will meet at the scout hut.  I will send an email on Thursday night letting you know.  Either way we will end at Meyer Park because that is where we will do the shake down hike.  So show up at 8:30 and bring your pack fully packed with everything you think you need to bring.

Our camping trip will be at enchanted rock, permission slips are attached. We will camp Jan 13-16.  Parents, if you could let Mr. Angevine or I know you plan to participate in this trip tomorrow that would be great!  Also if you need to return on Sunday let us know that as well.  While these permission slips are due on the 9th, it would be great if we can get them tomorrow.

Summer camp news went out yesterday, make sure you look at it.  A deadline to sign up is approaching.

We will have a committee meeting on January 10 combined with a Scout Master’s meeting.  We will gather at the hut at 7 AM.

Have a great week,

Mr. Fidler
